A proud partner of the Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) since 2017, Certina presents at the Sea Life Aquarium London the DS Action Diver Sea Turtle Conservancy Special Edition. A true diver’s watch, this new model emphasises the brand’s commitment, allowing customers to participate in the STC’s efforts to protect sea turtles and their habitats
Certina joined forces with the Sea Turtle Conservancy and its Tour de Turtles migration-tracking project in 2017, and has since been supporting the group’s wide-ranging conservation, awareness, research and educational activities in the Caribbean and beyond. This Special Edition Watch represents a renewed commitment to the partnership: as a substantial portion of proceeds from the sale of the watch will go to support the Florida-based conservancy. The purchase of the STC Special Edition of Certina’s DS Action Diver thus permits the customer to participate and support in the effort to protect sea turtles, at no extra charge.
The notable differences which make the STC Special Edition DS Action Diver watch different from the other colourways available are that the second hand is the colour of the Sea Turtle Conservancy logo even the”Diver’s Watch 300 m” lettering. The organisation’s unmistakeable turtle logo being featured on the back of the case, rather than the usual Certina turtle shell design.
Certina’s connection to turtles goes back to the introduction, in 1959, of its acclaimed DS Concept protection system – poetically the same year that the Sea Turtle Conservancy was founded. The DS Concept brought new levels of reliability and resistance to watchmaking and led to a natural association with turtles and turtle emblem featured on Certina watches. The turtle has been part of the Certina logo for many years and so is a fitting inspiration between this partnership with the Sea Turtle Conservancy. Certina is especially proud to support the STC’s fascinating, fun and tech-savvy Tour de Turtles migration-tracking program, which allows the public to follow sea turtle migrations online and feel a closer bond to these majestic under-water creatures.
For the 2017 edition of the Tour de Turtles, Certina sponsored a leatherback turtle, named Marina that was equipped with a satellite tracker and released into the ocean in July of last year. Today the data from Marina’s migration helps to demonstrate the importance of the Gulf of Mexico for endangered leatherback turtles that nest in the Caribbean and Central America.
Certina President Adrian Bosshard said, “We’re delighted to support the Sea Turtle Conservancy and its vital effort to protect sea turtles. The Tour de Turtles is a fantastic initiative, and we’ll be sponsoring a sea turtle named Certina again this year. The Special Edition of the DS Action Diver also allows customers looking for a true diver’s watch to support conservation efforts, at no extra cost: a significant portion of proceeds goes directly to the Sea Turtle Conservancy.”
The DS Action Diver Sea Turtle Conservancy Special Edition is in its element both above and under water, and meets all the requirements of the ISO 6425 standard for diver’s watches. Its automatic Powermatic 80 movement with a power reserve of 80 hours is housed in a 43 mm stainless steel case.
