INSPIRED BY ARCHITECTURE: 20 years of a unique and timeless bond

Since 2002, Mido has been drawing creative inspiration from an art that – like all watches from the Swiss watchmakers – transcends eras: architecture. That was the year of the All Dial, its first collection, whose contemporary design was freely inspired by a monument that is as famous as it is remarkable: the Colosseum in Rome

To celebrate 20 years of this unique alliance and to shine an even brighter light on the values Mido shares with this visionary yet timeless discipline, the brand is set to unveil five exclusive models from its flagship collections: All Dial, Baroncelli, Ocean Star, Multifort and Commander. Each model pays homage to the iconic building to which it is linked. Presented in a special anniversary box, the creations from this architectural series will be revealed throughout 2022.

A timeless influence

Mido has been creating watches with aesthetics and mechanics that stand the test of time since 1918. It is only natural, then, that this commitment has led the brand to be inspired by architecture and iconic buildings that also defy time, and in which Mido recognises its four essential values: innovation, functionality, aesthetics and timelessness.

Created in 2002, the All Dial collection will be the first to evoke one of ancient Rome’s most famous monuments in its design: the immense Colosseum amphitheatre. Ever since, the art of architecture has been written into the creative DNA of Mido and has influenced all of its collections. In 2019, this association even gave rise to the lines of a new women’s collection, the Rainflower. Petals, interwoven on the dial and case, are reminiscent of the lotus shape of the ArtScience Museum in Singapore.

Special anniversary series

Throughout 2022, Mido is celebrating 20 years of close ties with architecture, and of course, the unique watchmaking aesthetic it has inspired. Five limited editions from its flagship collections will be unveiled over the coming months, each paying homage to its own monument, subtly evoked in a detail on the dial and finely engraved on the back of each watch.

The number of pieces is limited according to the inauguration date of each monument, except for All Dial, of which 2,022 copies are available to mark its jubilee year. Presented in a special box adorned with a collectable medallion, each of these exclusive pieces is a tribute to Mido’s passion for architecture.

The first Mido collection directly inspired by this art, this anniversary year opens with the All Dial design watch – which is celebrating its own anniversary! Its dial structure calls to mind the circular construction of the Colosseum, as well as its easily identifiable arches.

Next, the curves of the Baroncelli will elegantly celebrate the round neoclassical shape, a nod to the Rennes Opera House.

Then comes the Ocean Star with its high performance and reliability, notable for its superior water resistance just like the Europa Point Lighthouse in Gibraltar, built to guide sailors safely home from their maritime quests.

The robust Multifort, meanwhile, will highlight its association with the mighty Sydney Harbour Bridge. A rock solid architectural creation conceived in 1932, qualities that it shares with this Mido collection. Its main feature, the Geneva stripes on its dial, are reminiscent of the bridge’s vertical suspension cables.

Finally, the lines of the iconic Commander – in constant production by the brand for the past six decades – pays tribute to the iconic and historic Eiffel Tower.

In this anniversary year, Mido is reserving five limited series from its flagship collections to mark its passion for architecture, design, adventure and – above all – watchmaking.
